Adrienne helps women transition from and re-establish after trauma due to  violence and other forms of abuse in the home - she has done so since Tacoma was a violence-ridden haven for gangs. Her work helped women attain independence at a time when our city's women were in exceptionally challenging situations that worked against women's well being and has also helped women whose abusers were in high branches of the Federal Government. I especially respect her.

By donating to H.O.P.E. directly you provide her means of getting phones, diapers, hygiene products and most importantly shelter to women who finally break free from their abuser.

Your gifts make a real difference in the lives of the people she serves, families transition into healthy spaces and children are given better homes.

After meeting Adrienne Casteele of Tacoma's H.O.P.E. Victims Advocacy Foundation in 2015 we brought five bands in 2016 to show her support: three generations of women & two men I respect as women's advocates.

1) 28% of LGBTQ+ youth reported experiencing homelessness or housing instability at some point in their lives — and those who did had two to four times the odds of reporting depression, anxiety, self-harm, considering suicide, and attempting suicide compared to those with stable housing.

2) Research has shown that those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or questioning (LGBTQ+) have a 120% higher risk of experiencing some form of homelessness. With up to 40% of the 4.2 million youth experiencing homelessness identifying as LGBTQ+ while only 9.5% of the U.S. population, LGBTQ+ youth disproportionately experience homelessness compared to their straight and cisgender peers. They are also more likely to experience assault, trauma, depression, and suicide when compared to non-LGBTQ+ populations while also being homeless. These statistics are even worse for Black and Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) LGBTQ+ populations who suffer from racial inequities and discrimination.

Oasis Youth Center creates a safe place for youth identifying as LGBTQ+ to learn, connect, and thrive for queer youth. Oasis envisions a world in which queer youth are valued in the community as strong, creative leaders. Oasis is a youth-adult partnership in which young people and adults come together for shared teaching, learning and action.

Providing youth in need with 12 beds in Tacoma, with locations also in Bremerton and Silverdale, The Coffee Oasis Youth Programs exist to create pathways of opportunity for youth and young adults to be restored in heart, soul, mind, and body. They train youth, providing real life skills youth can then take into the real world and build a life with.

20% of their annual operating budget is covered by sales of their coffee and associated merchandise. So far as sustainable, long-term models go, theirs is a pioneering, adaptable approach we believe merits the consideration, respect and support due.

They provide overnight housing and job / training, along with a 24 hour hotline for youth. Their model can grow, they can add beds and locations with the appropriate support and we hope you will do what you can to help them in their efforts to serve youth.

Communities In Schools provides an array of services for youth to help them gain stability.

"Communities In Schools of Peninsula is the community’s leading drop-out prevention organization, serving in 10 schools in the Peninsula School District. Recently, we added South Kitsap High School in South Kitsap School District to our program, making a total of 11 schools.

Together with community partners, we ensure every student, regardless of race, zip code, or socioeconomic background, has what they need to realize their potential in school, by connecting students to caring adults and community resources that help them see, confront, and overcome the barriers that stand between them and a brighter future."

Food Backpacks 4 Kids thoughtfully provides food for youth and families in need on the Peninsula.

"We began by providing backpacks full of food to hungry children in 2009. Since then we have distributed over 1.5 million pounds of food! Each backpack has at least five pounds of nutritious snacks and child friendly foods. Students take the backpacks home each Friday and return them the following week for a refill.

The Family Pantry is open to any person in need of food. We are proud to serve more than 100 families each week- in person and by home delivery. We offer food staples, dairy, meats, and produce on a rotating availability.

Care Cupboards
Many of our students feel uncomfortable carrying home a backpack of food. In response, we have established Care Cupboards in the schools. Students can discreetly access food to meet their nutritional needs at school or at home."

Pioneering Change Since 2023, the Skoolie Foundation emerged as a beacon of hope, dedicated to transforming lives through innovative programs and community engagement. They have a powerful vision: to address homelessness, hygiene, and hunger by converting skoolies (school busses) into mobile shelters, creating safe havens and showering facilities for those in need.

Skoolie Foundation was founded on the principles of compassion, inclusivity, and a belief that everyone deserves a place to call home. As they opened their doors, their commitment extended beyond providing basic physical shelter – they restore dignity, ensuring access to hygiene, and addressing the pressing issue of hunger.

Their ways are new and work fundamentally.

United States Army Private First Class Kyle Marshall Farr, of the 240th Quartermaster Unit SSA Platoon which supported the 169th Support Battalion during Operation Iraqi Freedom was an infantryman. When he returned home, he was treated for Post Traumatic Stress and diagnosed with Traumatic Brain Injury at both Walter Reed and Perry Point VA Hospital in Maryland.

At 27, Kyle’s life was cut short. He died from an overdose in a Baltimore hotel room on March 7, 2009, the first night of being discharged from his treatment. He was laid to rest in Hamilton, VA. where he spent most of his childhood.

Born out of tremendous grief and a determined desire to help other veterans, his mother, Leslie Mayne, along with her family and friends were determined to honor Kyle’s memory and service to his country by seeking better outcomes for other returning veterans. The Race for A Soldier in Gig Harbor, WA. was created in 2011 and the beginning of a movement that is bringing hope and healing for our veterans, helping them make peace with their past and develop programs that foster “post traumatic growth.”

Their direct donation page is currently under construction. Please reach them directly here.
