We Give Our Efforts 4 Next Generations
Youth on Tacoma's streets are not there because they want to be.
Coming from homes often worse than you or i can imagine, they face unimaginable dangers every day, vulnerable as they are to the predatory nature of the streets. Reality for them is vulnerability and the constant stress of danger.
With far more young people on our streets than are recognized, the people that serve youth in need require help to do what they can to bring youth home.
Your support for them is beyond valuable.

Sound Comes Soon...
At the Heart of Sound
Music & Heart in Wright Park 2019 we began a cycle of awareness fostering solutions to youth homelessness in Tacoma. We continue that work, creating well-informed content through the people serving youth at the ground level with the critical organizations that are in touch with youth and know what they need. Working with Radio Tacoma and other media sources our message reaches many.
Now, we continue where we paused during the recent pandemic, & reach our city for youth.

Be a Star: Make a Star & Include It w/ Others

This Method is Easy to Scale
Variations exist - we got our instructions (FILE) directly from our friends at Olympia's Procession of the Species.
They recommend hot glue for joints - we also use tape.
Disney's process, below, is simple, but lacks the strength our 2-fold papering process provides. Choose your way.
There is an interesting tradition from the Philippines that also fosters the kind of community identity with oneness of place and kind that we find absolutely wonderful. The video above provides a peek into a cultural way of life we find inspiring.

Why We Do It (Below)
What do we want to bring INTO our lives, INTO our world, our cities and our homes? Make a star, write a message on it (or included with it) and get it to a local participating business - we'll pick it up and include it in a special installation on 12-21-2020
The installation will be a collage of HOPE for what is to come, and a memorial for those we lost this year in Pierce County to Covid-19. If you would like to know more and participate, email us here.

Grand Origins of this Stellar Work
In 2012 Vicci Martinez had her homecoming birthday show at Tacoma's Pantages Theater, after her national tour from performing on The Voice. Vicci was born on the International Day of Peace, so when we surprised her with an unforgettable assembly of illuminated sculpture, stars became associated with peace in Tacoma communities.
Since then, we decided to do the most stellar thing we could think of and create a way to use the stars to gain important support for people in various states of need in Tacoma's local communities. We have helped women in transition, disadvantaged students, survivors of trauma due to abuse, returning citizens and now youth w/ no shelter.
In order to pave the way for other communities to do the same, we licensed the Stars 4 Peace in the innovative Creative Commons, letting others also address need in their own communities, adapted in their own way to their unique needs and concerns.
We use the attention from the Stars 4 Peace to gain important support for people in the most vulnerable situations in Tacoma. In 2017 we started a clothing drive that has supplied and continues to help supply survivors of abuse, disadvantaged youth and homeless people with quality clothes and food they need. This year we bring critical help to youth with no shelter in Tacoma.
